Fury close in on Roar with win over Jets

TOWNSVILLE - Tuesday, 2 February 2010

The return to the team by Robbie Fowler tonight was enough inspiration to overcome a Newcastle Jets side who had claimed an early lead, and threatened to run away with the postponed match during the first half, only to see the North Queensland Fury claim an equaliser, which was actually against the run of play.

2010-11 Hyundi A-League [rd25]:

Nth Queensland Fury
Chris Grossman 38'; Chris Tadrosse 79'
Crowd: 4,156. Ref: Mr Chris Beath. HT: 1-1
2-1 Newcastle Jets
Matt Thompson 18'
Played at Dairy Farmers Stadium, Townsville

That provided the home supporters with a rejuvinated play, but the heat and humidity graduated told on the visiting side, and just when the result appeared deadlocked and heading for a 1-1 draw, the Fury won the game with a well-taken winner from right in front.

That final result was enough the keep the newest A-League club with a slim chance of still making the Play-offs with two rounds left, but it also meant that the round also saw both Perth Glory (winners at home over Central Coast), and Wellington Phoenix (home winners over Adelaide), overtake Newcastle on the Table who looked camped on 6th spot.

However, the gap between Newcastle and say Brisbane (four points), and North Queensland (five points) means that with 6 points left from the two remaining rounds won't be decided until at least the next game!
